Sycosis barbae

This is a deep-seated staphylococcal infection of the beard area, involving the whole length of the hair follicle. It may be associated with nasal carriage of staphylococci. It can sometimes be quite chronic but is unusual in societies where nutrition and hygiene are good and antibiotics are used early.
