Discoid eczema

Two round lesions have become confluent producing a polycyclic appearance.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may obscure the erythema of discoid eczema as in this atopic young man from Nigeria.
This variant of atopic discoid eczema is seen in young sunlovers who present with round hypopigmented patches on the outer surfaces of the limbs. The preceding eczema may have disappeared. It is frequently mistaken for pityriasis versicolor but this yeast infection occurs predominantly on the trunk.
Discoid eczema is pruritic and occurs in various sizes symmetrically on the limbs especially. It responds to potent or superpotent topical steroids.
