Psoriasis and alcohol abuse

Psoriasis is uncommon on visible sites such as the backs of the hands. There is gross involvement of the nails. This patient was an alcoholic and this acral form of psoriasis is often seen in such patients.
This is the same patient as in the above picture. This gross symmetrical scaling of the feet with raw areas on some of the toes is virtually impossible to treat with the local therapies. If the alcohol can be stopped systemic therapy may be used.
Psoriasis is one of the causes of erythroderma. The entire integument is involved. In this case the patient was an alcoholic, and the psoriasis in intensely red with virtually no scaling.
