Chickenpox

In this case the lesions can be seen to be at various stages of evolution. Those around the umbilicus are early pink vesicles and those just below the nipples are more haemorrhagic and crusted. The vesicle fluid contains a lot of virus but the scabs do not and patients are generally regarded as not infectious once all the lesions have scabbed.
There are a multitude of erythematous blotches on the torso. Close examination would reveal a vesicle in the centre of each lesion. The incubation period is about 2 weeks (9-23 days) and there is usually a mild prodrome of fever and malaise a couple of days before the rash erupts. The infection is spread via droplets from the nasopharynx. Subclinical infections do occur.
